I sat down with my friend Jake Szufnarowski and had a hour long conversation about my life, my Lost Art Of The Gentleman thing, tattooing, fighting and some other stuff. I’ve done a little radio but this is the first time I have done a podcast. It was cool to do it with a friend. You can get the podcast on iTunes now or on Jakes Site. Thanks for listening. I had the honor to contribute a painting for my brothers company Violent Gentlemen’s first art show / season opener party. Who better to paint than Wayne Gretzky aka “The great one” who is credited with popularizing hockey in California, after his years with the Kings. It was fun painting a subject matter I’ve never really painted, hockey. (more…)
When I tattoo old friends its really interesting because they have some “vintage” Luke work usually and doing new work up against that older stuff is a bit of a contrast and a visual timeline. My friend Rob Ruiz is one of my dearest friends and in a way I credit him for not following in a gang related lifestyle that was prominent where we were growing up. But thats a story for another day. Here we have his hand and a somewhat awkward space that I think we filled perfectly if I do say so myself.
Amazing time at Oliver Peck’s tattoo marathon in Dallas. Nothing like spending time with dear friends. Friendship to me has always meant so much. When you grow up with friends instead of your actual family your friendships become family. I would do anything for my friends at any moment but that goes without saying. True friends never talk about you behind your back, but speak up for you if someone is. Thank you to my friends who are now family. Champaign for my real friends and real pain for my sham friends.
I had the pleasure of spending some time with Stalley a few months back, my good friend BJ Betts was doing some work on him at our shop in soho. He’s a solid dude who makes great hip hop music, I back him. I always say the real legends speak from the heart. He speaks from the heart and is a legend in the making. I love when my friends visit me here at Wooster Street aka Ny Ink. I moved far away from my friends when I moved to New York two and a half years ago and I feel so lucky when my friends come stay with me at my small Lower East Side New York apartment, and bring their friends by my shop. A Ghetto Protected panther tattoo I made the other day. Over the last 8 years I have spent a lot of time working and hanging with my dear friend Morgwn Pannypacker, it is due to him that I do this style tattoos sometimes his gangster skull guys and gangster panther heads are the best. Many people try, including myself to do them as cool as him but more often then not they/we fall short. If you ever get the chance to get tattooed by Morgwn do yourself a favor get a GP skull guy from him. If not him I’ll do my best to do him justice respectfully as I have seen some of his secrets up close over the years. I just want everyone to know He is the OG. GP Family. Love you my friend.
The end of a era and the beginning of a new empire. On this day Tim and Brian came with me to clear out all my things from Luckys Tattoo Parlor in San Diego, where I learned how to tattoo (the original Dave Gibson’s Lucky’s tattoo parlor) and held a partnership with a very old friend for around 10 years.
