I have got to get back out in the ocean. Growing up in Cali I have spent more then half my life in the ocean and these last few years in NY I have missed being able to surf everyday.
A couple people here I have great respect for, Estevan Oriol and Tim Hendricks. I had the honor to sit down and be interviewed by Estevan at my brothers warehouse on my last trip to cali. I’m thankful and honored, I owe a lot to the big homies I grew up around for putting me down with the real people in the game, and teaching me to spot and stay away from the fakes and phonies. It’s days like these I feel really blessed. Stay tuned for my short Tattoo Stories episode coming soon on Sanctioned TV
I sat down with my friend Jake Szufnarowski and had a hour long conversation about my life, my Lost Art Of The Gentleman thing, tattooing, fighting and some other stuff. I’ve done a little radio but this is the first time I have done a podcast. It was cool to do it with a friend. You can get the podcast on iTunes now or on Jakes Site. Thanks for listening. I had the honor to contribute a painting for my brothers company Violent Gentlemen’s first art show / season opener party. Who better to paint than Wayne Gretzky aka “The great one” who is credited with popularizing hockey in California, after his years with the Kings. It was fun painting a subject matter I’ve never really painted, hockey. (more…)
Back from the dead is a great new song by Skyler Grey featuring the homie Travis Barker and also Big Sean. I love how the music video was shot, good concept for the lyrics and visually very cool.
A really nice guy from New Zealand got his first tattoo from me the other day at Wooster, skulls and roses half sleeve here all done basically in one shot . You really cant go wrong with skulls and roses, they are timeless classics. Normally I would suggest starting higher on the arm and working your way down, but I still have some tradition tattoo ideals. I do also recognize change and find myself budging a bit with the changing times. He can still wear long sleeve no problem and arm tattoos don’t seem to be taboo at all any more.

When I tattoo old friends its really interesting because they have some “vintage” Luke work usually and doing new work up against that older stuff is a bit of a contrast and a visual timeline. My friend Rob Ruiz is one of my dearest friends and in a way I credit him for not following in a gang related lifestyle that was prominent where we were growing up. But thats a story for another day. Here we have his hand and a somewhat awkward space that I think we filled perfectly if I do say so myself.
