“2 Kings” is Rick Ross latest single from his new album “God forgives, I dont” …The Video is very cool…I especially like the old Dr Dre footage…I cant say I love the bars they spit…because they have all spit much better…and it doesn’t sit right with me that Rick Ross is in this context as if he has anywhere near the history or credibility of Jay or Dre…dont get me wrong I like Ross but he is not OG …But good for Ross having Dre and Jay co sign him… Ross is dope but still more on a catchy rap pop star kind of way… Jay-Z and Dr Dre are real kings in the rap game. One legend depicts how a Koi climbed up the falls on the Yellow River at a point called Dragon Gate and was transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend the Koi became a symbol of perseverance, tenacity, ambition, aspiration and advancement. Another remarkable thing about the Koi is that when it is caught, it would lie still on the chopping board without struggling or flapping around. This led to the Koi being a symbol of courage, composure, peace and tranquility under pressure. The Koi are also referred to as “living jewels,” and are also associated with good fortune. The image of five golden koi are said to mean “eternal wealth” and well-being.
Brixton come out of my hometown of Oceanside,California. Originally just hats I think, but now they went on to make some other great clothes and accessories. Knowing the guys involved makes me extra proud of them and how far they have come, they are stand up guys with class. I wish them continuous growth and success with Brixton and whatever other endeavors they involve themselves with. Here is a little video of their 2012 fall collection that I found on Hypebeast. (There is a few shots of my favorite surf spot growing up, south side Oceanside pier)
All the best to Dave and Pete and the rest of the good people at Brixton,
Rick Griffin has been one of my favorite artists for as long as I can remember, He was most widely known for designing some of the Grateful Dead’s best known posters. For me, I love the surf influenced art Rick Griffin created, as a young kid I used to draw waves often, but when I seen how he interpreted waves and barrels, it blew my mind. Thanks Mr Griffin for the inspiration, RIP
